Honoring the Past With Historic Home Renovations
Your historic home requires special care. Our team takes care of all the things you see – and those that you don’t see – to preserve its character and charm. Our goal is to take what’s special about a space and highlight it.
- In our Stickley Inspired Kitchen Remodel, we drew from the design chops of Gustav Stickley, the grandfather of the Arts and Crafts movement, to create a custom kitchen in a craftsman-style home. The cabinetry design mimics the home’s original woodwork. Our project earned a 2017 NARI REMY Award for a Kitchen Remodel Over $150,000.
- Architectural Craftsmen used historically accurate materials in Forward to the Past, while updating the layout of a very narrow, dysfunctional kitchen by removing an unnecessary secondary staircase. The remodel earned a 2017 NARI REMY Remodel of the Year Under $250,000.
Looking to the Future With Historic Home Renovation
While we help your house tell its story through period appropriate updates, we also ensure your spaces can be enjoyed in the present and in the future. This way, your house continues to weave its tales for generations.
- In our Marble Master Bath Retreat, we created a bathroom with modern functionality in a turn-of-the-century home. Custom vanity pullouts, toe-kick LED lighting, and in-floor heating feel futuristic and high tech, while a traditional soaker tub and hex-tile flooring are decidedly vintage.
- In Truman Ties in Independence, our team resolved workspace issues in the kitchen by creating a custom island and without changing the original floorplan. The final design drew inspiration from existing home features, like coffered ceilings, frieze wallpaper, and stained oak millwork.
What to Expect When You Book Our Historic Home Renovation Company
Any home remodeling project requires careful preparation, planning, and execution, but it’s never more important than when the project involves an older property. As a team of historic home renovators in Kansas City, we anticipate your home’s potential renovation needs so that there are fewer surprises while we work.
We’ve perfected our process to ensure the best possible results for all our clients and their important homes.
- During the discovery phase, we meet with you in your home to learn more about your vision and the scope of work. If we agree the project is a good fit, we’ll provide a design agreement before moving on to the next phase.
- During the project development step, we take precise measurements and photograph your home as it is currently, so we can begin our design. We’ll present a couple concepts for you to help identify the best route for the project. Then, we’ll fine-tune the specifics, including fixtures, finishes, and exact pricing. When the design is finalized, we complete production drawings, and you’ll sign a construction agreement. Together, we’ll review everything in a preconstruction meeting.
- During the construction phase, we perform work on your home. You’ll meet with our lead carpenters and gain access to our online project management tool so you always know the project’s progress. Near the end of construction, join us for a walkthrough, where we’ll identify a punch list of items that need our attention before we’re through.

While You Await Your Discovery Meeting…
Now that you have your discovery consultation scheduled, you can begin preparing for the meeting by following these helpful steps.
- Think about what you love about your historic home and what you don’t. Create a list of items that you’d love to have or improve upon, should renovation budget be no issue.
- Whittle that list down to the must-haves and the nice-to-haves.
- Look through our portfolio of work for inspiration for your home. You’ll find an array of architectural styles we’ve worked on in the past, including craftsmen, Tudor, and more.
