Overland Park home remodeling by Architectural Craftsmen

Welcome

Besides offering home remodeling with superb craftsmanship using quality materials, good communication with our clients, a clean worksite, and an endless warranty period, what sets us apart from everyone else? We develop a relationship with our clients from the very beginning. We take the time to understand not only the lives and lifestyles of those who dwell within the home, but to discover the soul of the home itself.

Our Mission

We believe that every home has a story to tell. It is our mission to discover that story and to express it in the work we do through architectural design and craftsmanship.

Bio

Raised in rural north central Kansas, Joe Thompson, owner, has been working with his hands from a young age. It began when he received a new bike for his 9th birthday. His father later found him in the machine shed taking Joe Thompson, home remodeling in Overland Park, Kansasit apart and modifying it (remodeling, if you will) to look like his older brother’s Harley Davidson chopper. After high school, he learned the carpentry trade at North Central Kansas Vocational Technical School. Graduating from there, he moved on to the School of Architecture and Design at Kansas State University. Wanting to keep with the hands-on aspect of residential construction, he began working as a superintendent for a large home builder in the Olathe area.

In 1988 he and his wife, Mary, moved to Baldwin City where they restored their home built ca. 1910, while he studied history of science and technology at the University of Kansas. This is when he developed a passion for historical architecture and the desire to restore older homes to their original grandeur. Thus began Architectural Craftsmen. He has since had the pleasure of restoring older homes in Lawrence, Baldwin City, Leawood, Westwood and Kansas City’s Roanoke and Brookside neighborhoods, and remodeling homes in Overland Park, Lenexa, Prairie Village, Mission Hills, and Kansas City, Missouri.

Joe and Mary now live in Overland Park with their three children, two dogs, and a cat. Joe has been coaching youth basketball for seven years and is a fan of Big 12 basketball. They enjoy sports, nature, and remodeling their own home…when they can find the time.
